Barack Obama Throws His Hat Back into Political Ring with a Shout-Out to ‘Cousin Pookie’

*Newark, New Jersey President Obama’s first political endorsement, since leaving office as the 44th President of the United Stated of America, came yesterday, in Newark, New Jersey, to the rousing applause of a packed ballroom at the Robert Treat Hotel.

Obama’s appearance was in support of Democratic gubernatorial candidate, Phil Murphy.   Obama was greeted with chants of “four more years,” whereafter, he reminded the enthusiastically, giddy crowd that the Constitution of the United States of America, as well as, his wife, Michelle Obama, would not permit him to be the President for four more years.

It was not lost on those attending, that Obama chose the inner-city of Newark to re-emerge from his hibernation – now a civilian and no longer the Commander in Chief of the United States of America.

“In my heart, Barack is still my President. He could have gone anywhere in New Jersey, but he knows if you really want to fix a State you have to improve the inner-city first. Plus we gonna give him the most love in the hood,” said Sharon Whisler.

Obama delivered a message that encouraged the audience to use their power as voters to let their voices be heard.  He referenced the surprising defeat of Hillary Clinton to Donald Trump without ever directly mentioning the candidates’ names.  He told the hundreds of onlookers, with cellular phones help high in air capturing pictures, videos and selfies, to get to the polls and vote on November 7th. He reminded them to call “cousin Pookie” and make sure she voted, to which the audience responded with uproarious laughter and applause.

“President Obama came to endorse Phil Murphy not just because he is a Democrat, but because Phil has the experience and he is intellectually and morally fit to govern and serve the people of New Jersey,” said Reverend Derrick Green, Senior Political Adviser for Phil Murphy. Phil Murphy, who was appointed by Obama as the Ambassador to Germany, was a board member of the NAACP, and houses his main headquarters in Newark, New Jersey, where it appears that he also has tremendous support from the community.

Obama’s appearance was the beginning of a day of voter activism in Newark. Later that evening, an event titled “300 Faith Leaders for Change” was held at St. Luke’s AM.E. Church.  Obama’s message of “get out the vote” was endorsed by faith leaders from the Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Seventh Day Adventist and other denominations during the well-attended event. Former New Jersey Governor, Jim McGreevey, a professed Catholic, took to the pulpit to speak of the need to make prisoner re-entry opportunities a priority in our Country.

“One of President Obama’s legacies will be his and First Lady Michelle’s focus on inclusion.  In a climate of such divisiveness coming from the White House, we wanted to show that in Newark, New Jersey, under the leadership of Phil Murphy and Sheila Oliver, we will continue to make inclusion, fairness and opportunities for all, a priority,”  said Green.
