Stevie Wonder Speaks on Diversity of ‘SING’ on the Red Carpet [EUR WAS THERE]

*This past Saturday (12-03-16), the A-list cast of Universal Pictures’ animated film “SING hit the red carpet at LA’s Microsoft Theatre to promote the film and EUR was there to hang with the cast and invited celebs.

Tori Kelly, who voices the Indian Elephant Meena, talks about relating to her character and overcoming her shyness on stage.

“Meena is a very shy and timid elephant, and she loves to sing very much like myself, Kelly said. I relate to Meena a lot, because I was a very shy kid and I would get on stage, and I was just be awkward and very stiff. But I knew I loved to sing, so it’s cool; you get to watch Meena and all the other characters; you get to watch their journeys and how they overcome these fears they have.”

Joby Talbot, who was the composer for the film, talks about his behind-the-scenes role.

“I was the composer of (‘Sing’), so I had to write the score, [movie soundtrack] Talbot said. Basically, all of the music that isn’t songs is what I was in charge of. The big orchestra, choir, rock bands and for all the different characters and all the different story lines, we have music for all of that and I had to write it.”

Jennifer Hudson was also in attendance for the screening and serenaded the crowd along with legendary recording artist Stevie Wonder, talked about the film’s message.

“I think everyone plays an interesting and relatable character, Jennifer said. It’s a very relatable story, it’s about pursuing your dreams and your goals and it’s cool to see in animal form of them having dreams and aspirations too.”

Stevie Wonder, who sings on the original track, “Faith” spoke about the diversity of the film.

“I’m excited that young children will be able to see the film and understand the diversity and understand that; yes at the end of the day, if we can come together and sing with our hearts being in the spirit of unity, then we have something to work with.

The film is centered on a Koala voiced by Matthew McConaughey, who produces the world’s greatest singing competition in an attempt to save his once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times.
