*An unfortunate scheduling mistake landed Kelly Price in hot water over the weekend when it appeared as if she sang her infidelity anthem “As We Lay” at a gospel event during the Indiana Black Expo (IBE).
Price said she was asked to perform “her music” (not gospel music) at IBE’s We Love Music Conference, and decided to sing one of her biggest hits, “As We Lay.”

But after her performance, Price says she was approached by an emcee who called her song choice inappropriate.
It turns out the offended emcee was working the IBE Gospel Explosion, which was scheduled to take place next on the same stage.
Baffled, the R&B star posted several videos to Instagram outlining her frustration with the criticism, calling it “disheartening.”
“I think this type of ignorance and this type of church bigotry is ridiculous and it’s the reason why people won’t come to church….I am very, very angry,” she said.

In clapping back at the organizers, Price also said she has been “placed on the front line” to expose “people who are saying they represent Jesus Christ but are filled with hate and bigotry. …I have to be the one who’s sacrificed.”

Well, the folks at Indiana Black Expo apparently saw the clips, heard about the backlash and responded with a statement defending Price, explaining that her performance of “As We Lay” was never intended to be part of the IBE Gospel Explosion.
“Ms. Price was originally scheduled to perform two songs at 3:00 p.m., an hour before the Gospel Explosion,” wrote IBE organizers. “A last minute change in schedule resulted in Ms. Price performing closer to the start of the Gospel Explosion.”

And in case it still wasn’t clear, the singer who organized the We Love Music Conference and invited Price to perform posted a similar statement explaining the scheduling mixup and doubling down on Price’s sentiment about “church bigotry.”
“I saw some of the things that people were commenting under her post and it was disgusting,” wrote Rico Love in an Instagram post. “These people did NOT KNOW THE FACTS but had no problem spewing those disgusting words to her ‘in the name of the church.’”
