R. Kelly Details Being Sexually Abused During Childhood

r-kelly*R. Kelly’s reputation for being one of the most sexually charged singers is what many of his fans know him for.

Yet those  fans may be surprised to find that the 49-year-old entertainer’s childhood was one that included  sexual abuse.

Opening up about being molested by a woman, Kelly voiced his belief to GQ that the sexual abuse may have contributed to child molestation accusations he received years later.

Despite revealing that he was molested by a woman in his 2012 memoir “Soulacoaster,” Kelly hasn’t admitted that the woman was a member of his family until now. According to the singer, the sexual abuse started when he was “about 7 or 8 to maybe 14, 15.” Kelly went on to detail the specifics of the abuse, saying it began as oral sex and progressed to sexual intercourse.

“I remember it feeling weird. I remember feeling ashamed. I remember closing my eyes or keeping my hands over my eyes,” he told GQ. “I remember those things, but couldn’t judge it one way or the other fully.”

Over time, the effect of the abuse took a disturbing toll on Kelly, with him admitting that he began looking forward it.

“Over time, yeah. I remember actually, after a couple of years, looking forward to it sometimes. You know, acting like I didn’t, but did,” he shared.

In addition to the sexual abuse, Kelly stated that he was offered money to perform oral sex on an older man, but ultimately rejected the proposition.

In his adult years, Kelly has been plagued with sexual abuse allegations, most notably when he denied in 2002 that he was the man shown in an infamous viral video having graphic sex with an underage girl. A year later, the vocalist was charged with sexual conduct with a minor, among other charges that pertained to the same girl in the video.

On June 13, 2008, Kelly was acquitted of all charges in the case by a Chicago jury.
