“Gun violence has struck home,” Janelle Monae tweeted Wednesday.
The singer is mourning the death of her cousin Natasha Hays, a mother of three who was killed in a drive-by shooting in Kansas.

According to local news reports, Hays and her kids were asleep early Tuesday morning when an unidentified person opened fire into her Kansas City home, killing the 37-year-old.
Her children — ages 14, 16 and 18 — were not harmed. Police have yet to arrest any suspects.
Hays was a caregiver at Life Care Center of Kansas City.
Monae expressed her grief and frustration with gun violence in a series of tweets:
Gun violence has struck home. My beautiful 1st cousin was murdered. She was a mother of 3. Loved by her community. #NatashaHays #sayhername

Nobody deserves to lose their mother, sister, cousin, friend, etc to the hands of evil. Evil has no race. #Gunviolence #NatashaHays
