*Gladys Knight’s son Shanga Hankerson returned to court this week in their legal battle over his chicken and waffle restaurants.
theJasmineBRAND.com exclusively reports that he is pleading for the judge to allow him to continue on with his case against his famous mother, and he’s blasting the singer for trying to win the case on a technicality.
On November 7th, Shanga returned to court to explain that his mother won’t be financially harmed by continuing with this legal battle. He also believes he has a case against Gladys Knight because she is a partner in the business and she granted him the exclusive license to use her name and likeness on memorabilia in the restaurants.
Back in July, he admits Knight wanted to terminate the licensing deal, but he also accuses her of breaching the requirements for termination or revocation of the license per their written agreement.
Shanga claims his mother orally agreed to a deal that would extend the license contract through March 2019. He cites a media interview she gave around the time in which she referred to the chain as “our” restaurants.
He says she even provided a cash infusion, did promotional work, marketing, galas, interviews and visited the restaurants on several occasions.
Shanga is demanding the judge not allow his mother to win this case on a technicality because he filed his response past the deadline. He’s pleading for the case to move forward, and believes he will emerge the winner when it’s all over.

In other leagal action, struggling music producer Memphitz lost big in court this week after the Georgia Court of Appeals denied his appeal in a defamation case against the producers of “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta.”
You may recall how back in 2012 he filed a lawsuit alleging that he was defamed during the first season of the hit VH1 show. He believes his ex, and one of the show’s cast mates, K.Michelle, made slanderous comments by accusing him of physical abuse and embezzlement. He continues to vehemently deny the rumors and negative speculation about their past relationship.
While she never said his name on the show, the media and Black Twitter concluded that Memphitz was who K. Michelle was referring to.
He has yet to comment on losing the appeal.
