EUR on the Scene for ‘Recorded in Hollywood’: the John Dolphin Story (WATCH)

*EURweb was on the scene at the beautiful Kirk Douglas Theater in Culver City, CA for the musical stage play “Recorded In Hollywood” which is based on the real life story of businessman John Dolphin who was one of the first African American men to start a record label in addition to operating as a music producer, record store owner and club promoter.

EUR was in attendance to interview some of the cast of the musical as well as the family members of Mr. Dolphin.

Thomas Hobson, who plays legendary Sam Cooke in the play, says he was fortunate enough to meet and hang out with actual family members of Mr. Cooke as research for his role.

EUR associate, Robin Ayers spoke to Jamelle Dolphin (grandson of John Dolphin), who is the primary reason that “Recorded in Hollywood” was created. Jamelle spoke candidly about not knowing much of his family history growing up.

“People always asked me if I was related to John Dolphin,” he said.

After becoming more curious, Jamelle began looking more deeply into his grandfather’s legacy and decided that his was a story the world should know about. He took the project into his own hands and produced “Recorded In Hollywood” in hopes of traveling to different cities with the musical to get his message out.

Actress, Wendy Raquel Robinson, was also in attendance having played a major role in the acting career of several cast mates.

“I’m so proud of them,” says Robinson.

She continues to explain that many of the cast members have graduated from her performing arts school, Amazing Grace Conservatory. In addition to coming out to support, Robinson said the actors and the storyline also inspired her.
