*That didn’t take long. Only 2 hours in fact.
We’re referring to the amount of time it took to identify and take into custody a Detroit woman after police released high-definition surveillance video that provided crystal clear images of her face.
You could say this is a whole new kind of reality TV.
And here’s the back story to the incident, courtesy of Sandra Rose:
The dramatic video begins with a verbal argument between the occupants of two cars at a Mobil gas station on Detroit’s west side just before 4:30 a.m. Sunday.
Devon Todd, who was in a green Pontiac Grand Prix with 2 of his brothers, got into a shouting match with a male and a female who were in a blue Dodge Charger.
The video shows the woman reaching into the Dodge and retrieving a handgun from the passenger seat. She then concealed the gun under her skirt.
The woman argues with Todd’s brothers inside the Grand Prix and Todd punches out the male suspect who hits the ground hard. The driver of the Grand Prix drives off and runs over the male suspect on the ground.
The woman busts 2 caps into the passenger side window of the Grand Prix, striking Devon’s brother, David Todd, Jr.
Devon restrained the woman and grabbed her gun, before driving his brother to the hospital.
Police Chief James Craig said the female suspect was in custody within minutes after a concerned citizen spotted her driving a mile from her home.
After reviewing the video, Todd’s parole officer recognized him and determined his involvement was a violation of his parole.
Devon’s father, David Todd Sr., questions why Devon was arrested for stopping the violence.
“He came out of the gas station, he stood by to listen to what’s going on. He said, ‘What’s wrong with this guy?’ as he got aggressive he just hit him and the guy fell out,” said Todd Sr.
“(He) got the gun away from her, at the same time she’s yelling, ‘Get the other gun, get the other gun.’ … He was stuck for a minute. He said, ‘Daddy, I just reacted. I thought he was going to kill David.’”
Todd Sr. said Devon confiscated the woman’s gun and drove David to the hospital, where he is listed in stable condition.
Once his brother was stable, Devon drove to the police station and turned himself in.
But Devon was arrested because he was a convicted felon in possession of a weapon.
Good grief! That was interesting. Here’s something else that’s interesting.
As of this posting, the female suspect’s name has still not been given, but Detroit Police Chief James Craig says she was arrested while she was driving about a mile away from her home. Someone recognized her and called police, reports Fox2 Detroit.
“Huge success, exactly what we had hoped for,” says Detroit Police Sgt. Michael Woody of Project Green Light. “We’re going to see you, and we’re going to see you clearly.”
The Mobil station where the shooting took place is a Project Green Light gas station, where police installed high resolution cameras that connects to police in real-time.
The high-def cameras are currently at 11 businesses in Detroit, and include everywhere from gas stations to liquor stores and McDonald’s.
The businesses involved in the program are identified by “big, bright signs” informing the public that the videos are streaming in real-time.
