*Video of a 14-year-old reciting his slam poem “White Boy Privilege” has gone viral in the wake of the country’s recent race-related shootings.

Back in May, Royce Mann performed at a slam poetry competition at The Paideia School in Atlanta. His winning poem outlined the special perks he believes have come to him automatically, just by being born white and male.

“I have started life at the top of a ladder while you were born on the first rung,” Royce says during his performance.

“When I see a police officer, I see someone who is on my side,” he says.

He continues:

When I was born, I already had a success story written for me. You? You were given a pen with no paper.
I’ve always felt that that was unfair
But I’ve never dared to speak up because I’ve been too scared.
