*A lot of wheeling and dealing is going on regarding the upcoming third installment of Ice Cube’s “Barbershop” franchise.
On the studio side, New Line is making a deal to join MGM, according to Deadline, and deals are being made for Ice Cube and Cedric the Entertainer to reprise their roles under “The Best Man” franchise director Malcolm D. Lee.
Queen Latifah and Nicki Minaj are among those in talks to round out the ensemble, Deadline reports.
Cube Vision is producing. MGM will run production and New Line will handle distribution. Bob Teitel and George Tillman Jr. of State Street Pictures are the lead producers.
“Black-ish” showrunner Kenya Barris and Tracy Oliver are writing the script.
The first two films were released by MGM. The 2002 original grossed $75 million; the 2004 sequel $65 million – both domestic.
