Jazmine Sullivan Opens Up About Her ‘Reality Show’

Jazmine-Sullivan*Jazmine Sullivan’s three-year hiatus from music is up, as evidenced by the success of her new album “Reality Show.”

The album, which features the single “Let It Burn,” ranks high with a No. 1 debut on the R&B Albums chart and a No. 2 debut on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums chart.

“Reality Show” follows Sullivan’s previous release “Love Me Back,” which segued into her announcing her hiatus in 2011.

Chatting with VH1, Sullivan opens up about “Reality Show” and her motivation for coming back on the scene. The following is part of the singer’s interview:

What was the hardest part about making Reality Show?

I executive produced it. A lot of the album was done in Phili with just me and the engineer. My mom would come through and let me know if stuff was hot or not. The pressure that I put on myself to do it primarily on my own, with very little help from different people, was the most difficult part.

What brought you back?

A bad relationship can bring you down, so I got rid of a lot of that dead weight and had time to learn and grow and meditate. Naturally, the love and the desire to do [music] just came back for me.

In your documentary web series, Beyoncé called you one of the best. How did that make you feel?

The way I reacted didn’t show how I felt. On the inside, I was screaming, but on the outside I couldn’t even move. Actually, that shows exactly how I felt. I love Beyoncé. She’s one of the greatest entertainers that we have. For her to openly say that about me on stage while she has this big production going on, I was so happy and honored.
