*Recent polling data from several Republican-leaning sources indicates a notable decline in President Donald Trump’s approval ratings.
Newsweek reports that a survey conducted by Echelon Insights between April 10–14 found that only 47% of likely voters approve of Trump’s performance, while 51% disapprove, a net rating of -4 points. This represents a drop from January’s results, which showed a net positive rating.
Other GOP-aligned pollsters, including Rasmussen, RMG Research, and TIPP Insights, have also reported similar downward trends. For example, TIPP’s early April poll showed Trump with 43% approval and 50% disapproval, dropping his net rating to -7 points. CBS/YouGov’s latest results mirrored this decline, with Trump’s approval dipping to 47% and disapproval rising to 53%. In February, he had a net positive rating of +2 points.
While the Harvard-Harris poll shows only a minor one-point dip from March, the larger shift becomes more apparent when compared to February, when Trump’s approval was 52%. Newsweek’s tracker also reflects this trend, reporting a net -5 approval rating for Trump as of mid-April.
A University of Massachusetts survey conducted earlier in the month aligns with the broader data, showing a 44% approval rate versus 51% disapproval. Across the board, the results suggest weakening support among voters, particularly as Trump’s numbers on key issues like the economy, once a strong point for him, have eroded.

Comparatively, former President Joe Biden held stronger approval numbers at a similar point in his presidency, with 54% approving in April 2021. Though Trump experienced a brief surge in popularity post-inauguration, he has consistently remained among the least favored modern presidents, and the recent polling confirms continued challenges in maintaining broad public support.
