*Shedeur Sanders’ first NFL start turned into a milestone moment that drew national attention — including praise from President Donald Trump.
CBS Sports reports that the Cleveland Browns’ rookie picked up his first NFL victory as the Browns rolled to a 24-10 win over the Raiders. Sanders finished 11-of-20 for 209 yards, with a touchdown and an interception. The highlight: a 66-yard fourth-quarter scoring dart to fellow first-year player Dylan Sampson. Trump celebrated the performance on Truth Social, writing, “Shedeur Sanders was GREAT. Wins first game, career start, as a pro (for Cleveland). Great Genes. I TOLD YOU SO!”
The outing marked the first time since 1995 that a Browns quarterback won his debut start, and the first since the team’s 1999 relaunch. Speaking with CBS Sports, Sanders expressed his gratitude and excitement. “I’m just thankful,” he said.

“I think I showed a couple of great pieces. Some things I wish I could get back, but, man, a win is crazy. It’s amazing, you know, off of one week of practice! So imagine what a full offseason would look like. It could get dangerous. … But I’m just truly thankful that everything happened,” Sanders added.
After sliding in the draft and beginning the season as the third-string quarterback, Sanders said he never felt rattled before kickoff.
“I think I showed a couple of great pieces, and there’s some things I wish I could get back,” Sanders said. “But man, a win is crazy. It’s amazing. You know? Off of one week of practice. This is one week of practice! So imagine what a full offseason look like!”
He added that preparation and faith kept him grounded. His confidence, however, remains equally firm. “A lot of people want to see me fail and … it’s ain’t gonna happen. It ain’t gonna happen,” Sanders said.
When asked whether Sanders would start against the 49ers next week, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski declined to comment. “Proud of him, and proud of this offense and there are a ton of things to learn from, but I’m just going to worry about today,” Stefanski said, via ESPN.
