Suge Knight Reveals What Happened the Night Tupac Was Shot
*Suge Knight opened up about Tupac‘s final hours during a rare interview from prison with People. He was in the car with the rapper when gunfire struck them in Las Vegas on September 7, 1996. The two had just left a Mike Tyson fight at the MGM Grand when a white Cadillac pulled up and opened fire.
“I end up with a bullet an inch into my skull,” Knight said. He believes there’s still truth about that night that hasn’t come out. “What would Pac want? What he really want is truth. I believe that if something smells like sh–, look like sh–, it’s sh–.”
Tupac Was Still Joking in the Ambulance After the Shooting
Even after being shot, Tupac kept his sense of humor. Knight described how, while bleeding heavily, he helped get Tupac out of the car and into an ambulance. They joked together during the ride to the hospital.
“Pac is funny as f—. He cracking jokes. I’m cracking jokes. Pac’s like, ‘Sh–, when we heal up, you know what we doing.’” The rapper was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, while Knight was treated and released.
Tupac’s Chilling Pleas from His Hospital Bed
Knight claims that once in the hospital, Tupac made shocking requests. He allegedly asked for two blunts and Hennessy, even while sitting up and talking. Knight remembers him laughing, despite the pain.

But Tupac also made a haunting plea. He allegedly asked Knight to kill him, fearing a return to prison more than death. “I’ll die before I go back,” Tupac reportedly said. Still, suicide wasn’t an option for him due to his spiritual beliefs.
Afeni Shakur’s Final Promise to Her Son
Knight claims that Tupac later begged his mother, Afeni Shakur, to let him go. She allegedly gave him pills in an emotional attempt to honor his wishes. When doctors revived him, she warned them not to do it again.
“Don’t ever do that again. If he’s having complications, don’t touch him. Don’t bring him back. Let him go.” Knight says it was a mother’s way of ending her son’s suffering with dignity.
Tupac Shakur’s Death and the Aftermath
Tupac was declared dead on September 13, 1996, at 4:03 p.m., after doctors placed him in a medically-induced coma. Knight was by his side until the end. The pain of that day still lingers with him.
What came after, Knight says, was just as intense. Afeni Shakur allegedly demanded that her son be cremated immediately. Knight says he pushed back, but she insisted. “Get it done. Now.”

Why Tupac’s Cremation Sparked Tension and Controversy
Knight recalled that Tupac had wanted something different for his funeral. “He told me, ‘When I go, I want every rapper at my funeral to grab the mic. I want them to kiss me head to toe.’” But Afeni insisted on cremation, and Knight paid someone a million dollars in cash to handle it quickly.
That night, Tupac’s ashes were allegedly rolled into a blunt and smoked by close friends. Knight didn’t participate, claiming he was on probation and couldn’t smoke. “I was probably the only one who didn’t hit him.”
