*Ryan Coogler’s vampire thriller “Sinners” emerged as the most celebrated contender in this year’s Oscar nominations, making Academy history in the process.
The critically acclaimed box office smash secured 16 nominations, the highest total ever achieved by a single film at the Academy Awards. The milestone surpasses the long-standing record of 14 nominations held by “All About Eve,” “Titanic,” and “La La Land.”
“Sinners” scored nominations across major categories, including best picture, best director, and best screenplay for Coogler. Michael B. Jordan, who stars in the film, earned his first-ever Oscar nod for best actor.
Following closely behind was Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” which collected 13 nominations. The film landed acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio del Toro, and Sean Penn.

The best picture lineup includes 10 titles: “Bugonia,” “F1,” “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” “One Battle After Another,” “The Secret Agent,” “Sentimental Value,” “Sinners,” and “Train Dreams.”
In the supporting acting races, Elle Fanning and Inga Ibsdotter LilIeaas were nominated for “Sentimental Value,” alongside Amy Madigan for “Weapons,” Wunmi Mosaku for “Sinners” and Teyana Taylor for “One Battle After Another.” Supporting actor nominees include Jacob Elordi for “Frankenstein,” Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro for “One Battle After Another,” Stellan Skarsgård for “Sentimental Value,” and Delroy Lindo for “Sinners.”
A new Oscar category for casting debuted this year, with nominations going to “Sinners,” “One Battle After Another,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” and “The Secret Agent.” “Sinners” also earned a nomination for original song with “I Lied To You,” competing against tracks from “Kpop Demon Hunters,” “Train Dreams,” “Diane Warren: Relentless,” and “Viva Verdi!”
The 98th Academy Awards ceremony is scheduled for March 15 at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The event will air live on ABC and Hulu, with Conan O’Brien returning to host the show.
