Parker, created by American author Donald E. Westlake, is a professional thief who appears as the central character in 24 of the 28 crime novels Westlake published under the pseudonym Richard Stark. Known for his precision and focus on high-stakes, high-profit jobs, Parker became one of crime fiction’s most iconic antiheroes.
The character has appeared in numerous film adaptations over the decades. Because Westlake insisted the name Parker could only be used for a full series of films, many early adaptations featured renamed characters. These included Lee Marvin as Walker in “Point Blank” (based on The Hunter), Michel Constantin as Georges in “Pillaged” (from The Score), Anna Karina as Paula Nelson in “Made in U.S.A.” (inspired by The Jugger), and Mel Gibson as Porter in “Payback”.
After Westlake’s passing, his widow, Abby, approved the use of Parker’s name for the 2013 film “Parker,” starring Jason Statham. More than a decade later, Amazon Studios secured the rights to the entire Parker library, with plans to create a shared universe spanning films and television.
