*There’s already something unsettling about driving at night. The film Passenger takes that exact feeling and turns it into a full psychological horror experience.
When Taylor, played by Jacob Scipio, and Maddie, played by Lou Llobell, embark on what they believe will be an exciting and beautiful road trip, things take a turn for the worse.
I recently spoke with the film’s two lead characters, Jacob Scipio and Lou Llobell, about their characters and their connection in the film.
“What I loved about these two characters is that they are ride or die for each other,” said Jacob Scipio.

What stood out during the conversation was how the film does more than just lean into horror. There’s also an emotional and slightly romantic element woven throughout the story, which makes you feel even more connected to the characters. While they’re navigating these terrifying supernatural events. You also watch their bond grow stronger as they continue standing by each other’s side through all of the chaos, confusion, and fear.
That’s what makes Passenger work so well. The film doesn’t rely only on loud scares or over-the-top horror moments. But when it comes to the horror. It builds this lingering sense of dread that slowly creeps up on you. And for someone like me, who already hates driving at night because it feels like something weird is always lurking in the darkness. This movie absolutely fed into that fear.
There’s something about empty roads and dark highways that already feels eerie, and this film uses that atmosphere perfectly. Every scene feels tense, like something could happen at any moment. The film plays heavily on isolation and uncertainty, which makes the suspense even stronger.
What starts as an innocent road trip quickly turns into something much darker and more unsettling. By the end of the film, you may find yourself side-eyeing every dark road, empty street, or shadow outside your car window.
For horror fans looking for a suspenseful watch with supernatural elements and psychological tension. Passenger delivers a chilling ride that may leave audiences thinking twice before their next late-night drive.
“Passenger” from Paramount Pictures is in theaters today, Friday, May 22 (2026).
