*Paris Jackson has spent much of her life navigating what it means to grieve in public. These days, the daughter of Michael Jackson has stopped doing that altogether.
Appearing on Jack Osbourne’s podcast “Trying Not to Die” this week, the actress and musician spoke about a shift that has been quietly taking shape over the past few years. The pressure she once felt to keep the public informed about her inner life, particularly her feelings about her late father, has given way to something she describes as genuine freedom.
“There’s definitely a certain element where I felt I had to share everything,” Paris said, Hello Magazine reports. “And that has drastically changed in the last few years, because I don’t really feel like any of us owe anyone anything.”
Michael Jackson passed away in 2009 when Paris was just 11 years old. Now 28, she says the bond she carries with her father has become something she actively protects. Jack Osbourne, the son of late rock legend Ozzy Osbourne, shared a moment of understanding during the conversation, noting that people often ask him what it was like to have him as a father. Paris called that line of questioning “the silliest question in the world.”
“I’m in a very beautiful spot with my dad and I love that and it’s no one’s business and I don’t have to share that with anybody. And there’s a lot of freedom in that, which is really cool,” she said.
Paris also pushed back on criticism that has labeled her a “spoiled brat.”
“There was a lot about my upbringing that was silver spoon-esque, but there was so much of it that had to be earned. Like there was very much a focus on developing a work ethic,” she told Osbourne, PEOPLE reports. “And so I did see something recently where it’s like, ‘You don’t have to work,’ and it’s like no, I do. I really do. Because I’m like a shark. If I stop moving, I’ll die. It makes me happy to move and work and be productive.”
Michael Jackson was also father to sons Bigi, 24, and Prince, 29. Prince recently served as an executive producer on the biopic “Michael,” which has grossed nearly $800 million since its April 2026 release. According to Hello Magazine, Paris said she reviewed an early draft of the script and raised concerns about material she felt misrepresented the truth. After her feedback was not incorporated, she distanced herself from the project, writing on Instagram: “Not my monkeys not my circus. god bless and god speed.”
She was more pointed in a follow-up post. “The narrative is being controlled. There’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. I don’t really like dishonesty.”
