*A family dispute over Nate Dogg’s master recordings has spilled into the public eye after his son, Nathaniel Hale Jr., claimed that Snoop Dogg obtained the recordings without full authorization from the family.
During a recent podcast interview, Hale Jr. opened up about years of unresolved frustration surrounding his father’s music catalog, The Source reports. Hale Jr. explained that his uncle stored the masters at their grandmother’s residence while Nate Dogg was facing severe health challenges. He believes Snoop then went to the home and collected the recordings with the grandmother’s approval, but without his uncle ever being informed.
“Supposedly, Snoop got the okay from my grandma to go to her house and get my Pop’s masters,” Hale Jr. said. “When my Daddy got sick, my uncle placed the masters at my grandma’s house. He wasn’t aware that Snoop went to my grandma’s house and got the masters.”

The fallout has extended beyond the masters themselves, creating rifts among relatives. Hale Jr. shared that a heated exchange between him and his uncle took place at a Warren G concert. “Me and him just got into a big feud at Warren G’s show recently in front of a lot of people and it was embarrassing almost, and we haven’t talked since,” he said.
Snoop has pushed back on the claims, maintaining that he never took possession of the recordings. “What Snoop has always told me is he don’t got it, and he would never do something like that,” Hale Jr. said. “I at least want to know that he did get them and they are safe.”
The dispute casts a shadow over what was once one of hip-hop’s most celebrated partnerships. Nate Dogg, Snoop, and Warren G rose to prominence together as the Long Beach trio 213 and played a pivotal role in shaping West Coast rap. Widely regarded as the “King of Hooks,” Nate Dogg appeared on 18 songs that reached the Billboard Hot 100, including “21 Questions” with 50 Cent and “Regulate” alongside Warren G. He died on March 15, 2011, at age 41 due to congestive heart failure following multiple strokes.
Over a decade since his passing, the fate of his recordings remains a source of deep concern for his family.
