*Michelle Obama is setting the record straight about her marriage to Barack Obama, dismissing persistent divorce rumors and explaining that their private approach to life doesn’t signal trouble.
In a candid NPR interview, the former First Lady addressed speculation fueled by her absence from high-profile events such as Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Donald Trump’s second inauguration. “If I were having problems with my husband, everybody would know about it,” she declared on the May 1 episode of The Diary of a CEO podcast.
At 60, Michelle emphasized that she and Barack don’t feel the need to broadcast their relationship on social media. “I’m not a martyr,” she stated, highlighting her openness about personal struggles. Unlike younger generations, the Obamas prioritize privacy over Instagram posts, a choice that has sparked unfounded rumors.
Michelle’s recent comments on her IMO podcast further clarified her stance. Addressing criticism for skipping Trump’s inauguration, she said, “My decision to skip the inauguration – or my decision to make choices at the beginning of this year that suited me – were met with such ridicule and criticism. People couldn’t believe that I was saying no for any other reason. They had to assume that my marriage was falling apart.”
Despite the chatter, sources close to the couple confirm that Barack and Michelle remain close, recently spotted dining together in Manhattan and Washington, D.C. Insiders claim that Michelle’s independent pursuits, including events outside the political spotlight, reflect her enjoyment of a life beyond Washington.
“The fact that people don’t see me going out on a date with my husband sparks rumors of the end of our marriage. It’s like, “OK, so we don’t Instagram every minute of our lives,” she explained to NPR. “We are 60. We’re 60, y’all. You just are not gonna know what we’re doing every minute of the day.”
