*In Memphis, Myneisha Johnson, a senior at Booker T. Washington High School was shot and killed a week before her graduation. As you can imagine, her tragic death left many of her schoolmates and staff shaken. As a result, many have reached out to offer support.
And of course you’ll certainly not be surprised to know that there are others who have no problem reaching out with hate. The school’s principal, Alisha Coleman-Kiner, was sent an email Tuesday morning that questioned the school’s handling of Johnson’s death and the circumstances of her life.
It read as follows:
“The death of any young person is tragic. But to allow someone else to walk across the stage to accept her diploma is one thing but then give it to her young infant is another.
What are you thinking? The attitude and culture of the inner city youth need to change and doing this it won’t’ you’re acknowledging and celebrating this young child whose mother was tragically killed when in all fairness probably should have been home taking care of that young infant who now has no mother and quite frankly don’t know who this father is.
Food for thought.”
Uh oh. Whoever it is that wrote what they thought was a scolding, instead got a serious dose of reality from Principal Kiner via an open letter that she posted on her Facebook page. You can read it in its entirety below:
