*Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy claimed Vice President Kamala Harris would lose a gubernatorial race in California if she ran to succeed Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2026.
“If she came back to California, she would not win the race for governor,” he said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom on Monday, The Hill reports. “So, I mean, she’s got to rethink.”
McCarthy noted that Harris struggles in extended campaigns, citing her early exit from the 2020 presidential primary. However, he acknowledged that she is young enough for another phase in her political career, which includes two terms as California attorney general and a Senate victory in 2016, before becoming President Biden’s running mate in 2020.
Meanwhile, the Vice President laughed at her word salad during a post-election speech Tuesday at Prince George’s Community College in Maryland.
“I ask you to remember that this struggle is not new. It goes back nearly 250 years to Lexington and Concord,” Harris told the audience. “Generation after generation, it has been driven by those who love our country, cherish its ideals and refuse to sit passive while our ideals are under assault. “This fight now, it continues with you. You are its heirs.”
NEW: Kamala Harris shocks herself after thinking she said something smart while dropping her famous “context in which you exist” line.
I must say, this was impressive.

She then surprised herself, believing she had said something profound when she delivered her now-famous “context in which you exist” line.
“I ask you to remember the context in which you exist,” Harris said before pausing and nodding with a knowing smile. “Yeah, I did that. Uh huh,” she added and then laughed.
Harris appeared to be alluding to an earlier confusing statement her campaign had adopted: “You think you just fell out of a coconut tree? You exist in the context of all in which you live and what came before you.”
According to The Hill, some Democrats want Harris to run for president in 2028 despite her loss to President-elect Trump. However, many are urging her to stop her current fundraising efforts after reports revealed her campaign raised $1.4 billion but ended with $20 million in debt.
We reported earlier that following Harris’ loss in the 2024 presidential race to Donald Trump, there are claims of mismanagement within her campaign, despite raising over $1 billion. By mid-October, the campaign had spent more than $900 million, according to the Federal Election Commission, Newsweek reports. Critics within the Democratic Party, including Lindy Li from the DNC finance committee, have called the campaign a “disaster” and suggested it ended with around $20 million in debt.
Reports indicate that a significant portion of the funds was spent on advertisements and celebrity appearances at rallies. Harris’s campaign is also said to have spent $551 million on digital and TV advertisements.
