Rep. Maxwell Frost assaulted at Sundance party event
*U.S. Rep. Maxwell Frost says he was punched during a private party in Park City, Utah. The incident happened at a Creative Artists Agency event during the Sundance Film Festival weekend. The Florida congressman described the attack as racially motivated.
Frost, 29, is the first Gen Z member of Congress. He told multiple outlets he was struck in the face after being verbally threatened. Witnesses say the suspect shouted offensive and racist remarks before launching the assault.
Suspect made racial and political threats
The man accused of the attack has been identified as 28-year-old Christian Joel Young. According to witnesses, Young yelled things like “we are going to deport you and your kind.” He also reportedly praised being white and mentioned former President Trump.
Police arrested Young shortly after the assault. He now faces several felony charges, including assault and hate-related offenses. Authorities are still investigating the full details of the altercation.

Sundance says event was not affiliated
Organizers of the Sundance Film Festival quickly responded to the news. In a statement, they condemned violence and hate speech of any kind. They also clarified that the CAA party where the assault took place was not an official festival event.
While the event was attended by many in the entertainment industry, it was privately organized and not listed on Sundance’s formal schedule. The festival continues through the end of January in Park City.
Maxwell Frost represents Gen Z leadership
Frost made history in 2022 by becoming the first Gen Z member of Congress. He represents Florida’s 10th District, which includes Orlando. Known for his progressive views, he has been a vocal advocate for racial justice and gun reform.
Before politics, Frost was an organizer with March for Our Lives. His work in activism propelled him into the national spotlight. Many see him as a symbol of a new generation of leadership in Washington.

Online reactions to the attack are mixed
The Maxwell Frost assault sparked major online discussion. Social media posts on X (formerly Twitter) range from outrage to disbelief. Many users expressed support for Frost and condemned the attacker’s behavior.
Others, especially in conservative spaces, shared skeptical or mocking responses. The story has been picked up by news outlets across the spectrum, including CNN, ABC News, Breitbart, and the New York Post.
Why this story matters in today’s climate
