*The Marvel Cinematic Universe dives back into the undead with the upcoming animated miniseries “Marvel Zombies,” set to premiere on Disney+ this month.
A new trailer offers a glimpse of zombified heroes, hinting at the brutal chaos awaiting fans. Showrunner Bryan Andrews promises intensity, stating, “All I can say is, blood will be spilled.” This four-episode series expands on the alternate timeline introduced in “What If…?” season 1’s episode “What If… Zombies?!”
Building on the grim world of “What If…?,” “Marvel Zombies” follows survivors battling a horde of undead MCU icons. The show introduces a fresh take on Blade, voiced by Todd Williams, ComicBook reports.
The miniseries boasts a stacked voice cast, including Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch, Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Paul Rudd as Ant-Man, Simu Liu as Shang-Chi, Iman Vellani as Ms. Marvel, Awkwafina as Katy Chen, Randall Park as Agent Jimmy Woo, Dominique Thorne as Ironheart, and Hailee Steinfeld as Hawkeye. Unlike the original “What If…?” zombie episode, these characters bring new faces to the fight against the undead plague.

The series draws from the gruesome Marvel Zombies comics by Robert Kirkman and Sean Phillips, which stemmed from Mark Millar and Greg Land’s “Ultimate Fantastic Four” storyline. The comics saw zombified heroes devouring civilians, Avengers, and even Galactus’ power.

The “What If…?” episode ended with a haunting tease of Zombie Thanos wielding a nearly complete Infinity Gauntlet, leaving fans wondering if “Marvel Zombies” will revisit this multiverse-altering threat. Andrews, known for “Primal” and “Star Wars: Clone Wars,” teases, “All I can say is, blood will be spilled.”
Meanwhile, the live-action “Blade” movie continues to face delays with Marvel Studios showing “no sense of urgency” to produce it, per recent reports. As we reported earlier, Mahershala Ali remains committed to taking over the role made famous by Wesley Snipes, stating, “Call Marvel. I’m ready. Let them know I’m ready.”
The film, announced in 2019, has faced setbacks, including director changes and Delroy Lindo’s departure. Lindo reflected to Entertainment Weekly, “It was really exciting conceptually, but it was also exciting in terms of the character that was going to form. And then, for whatever reason, it just went off the rails.”
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige, speaking at D23 Brazil, reaffirmed commitment to the project, saying, “We love the character. We love Mahershala’s take on him. And rest assured: whenever we change direction with a project, or are still figuring out how it fits into our schedule, we let the audience know. You’re all up to date on what’s happening.”
“Marvel Zombies” lands on Disney+ on September 24, kicking off Phase 6’s animated offerings.
