*Margaret Cho is a comedy legend who has no problem standing up for marginalized communities. Friend, foe, or even peer, if you are causing a stir in a negative light for others, Cho is calling you out.
Even Dave Chapelle isn’t immune, as Cho opened up about the hurt caused when he made fun of trans people during his 2021 Netflix special “The Closer.”
In her eyes, the “Chappelle’s Show” alum was guilty of using his comedy in a reckless manner.
Referencing an interview Cho did with “The Kelly Mantle Show,” LoveBScott detailed how Cho is demanding accountability for Chappelle and wasn’t at a loss for words in communicating comedy icons ‘painful’ jokes about trans people.
“I wish that he would not talk about the trans community in the way that he does,” Cho said. “He’s such an authority on comedy, people hold him in such high regard, but then when he talks about the trans community in such an uneducated, negative, and destructive way, it really is painful.”
Cho’s comments about Chappelle fall in line with activism she has displayed over the years when taking a stand against those who are often unheard in the battle for equality.
“It is about amplifying voices that haven’t been heard, and it can be instrumental in bringing about real change,” said Chow, who described comedy as a tool for activism.

“It is about amplifying voices that haven’t been heard, and it can be instrumental in bringing about real change,” said Chow, who described comedy as a tool for activism.
Although she recognizes Chappelle’s talent and legacy, the funnywoman questioned the direction of his comedy in recent years. “It feels like a betrayal,” she said. “I know that he’s better than that.”
In 2021, Chapelle generated headlines and controversy regarding trans people and openly declaring himself “Team TERF” — a stance aligning with trans-exclusionary feminism, LoveB.Scott noted.
Cho isn’t the only one raising a flag on Chappelle and his Netflix comedy specials.

Michelle Buteau, a fellow comedian and prominent Black lesbian voice in comedy, also clapped back at Chappelle’s rhetoric weighed in on Chappelle and his rhetoric in her special “A Buteau-ful Mind at Radio City Music Hall,”
“He is the GOAT, if that means going off about trans people. Dave, it’s not funny, it’s dangerous,” Buteau said. “Make it funny. That’s all.”
In addition to Chappelle, Cho has criticized other comedy icons.
During the same episode of “The Kelly Mantle Show,” Ellen DeGeneres came up when Cho spoke candidly about her experience with the former daytime talk show queen.
Despite DeGeneres’ “Queen of Nice” title, Cho painted a different Ellen, who she described as “mean” and “not nice” behind the scenes. Throughout much of her career, which included opening for DeGeneres at comedy clubs in the 1980s, Cho went on to say that DeGeneres treated her poorly.
