*He may have generated laughs going at the late music legend Michael Jackson with jokes, but Katt Williams is making his “regrets” known about what he said.
Referencing an interview Williams did at the Vulture festival, Vibe reports the funnyman held himself accountable for going in on Jackson too much, despite not mentioning specifics about the context or nature of the jokes made about the King of Pop.
“I shouldn’t have, honestly,” a regretful Williams confessed bout his material on Jackson. In his eyes, the humor played into a damaging narrative against Black men.
“Like, some of these things are the reason that the enemy decides to go ahead and let you be famous. You can tear down your kind no matter how high they are. On the other hand, my job is to be funny first and to voice the opinion of a group that doesn’t get to have their opinion out there, right? So as a Black man, if you don’t love yourself, you don’t love me.”

As the interview continued, Williams cited his own mental health and being upset at Jackson as the reasons for going at the “Smooth Criminal” hitmaker so hard.
“Those were the jokes of a guy that was hurt, you know? “By an icon.” added Williams, who didn’t reveal where his dislike of the “Human Nature” crooner came from.
Despite the jokes leveled at Jackson, his sister, Janet Jackson, was not hateful toward Williams when they met.
“The fact that years later, Janet Jackson said she still loved me despite the jokes that I told about her brother is probably one of the most magnificent things, you know?”
He added: “I say a lot of hilarious sh*t. But it costs me every time, you know? Like, I’m never unscathed in these situations.”
