Five Bodies Recovered in Just One Week Across Houston
*Wait a minute. To say something ain’t right is an understatement. We’re talking about what’s going on in Houston. In mid-September alone, Houston police recovered five bodies from local bayous, bringing the yearly total to 13. This sudden spike in discoveries triggered concern and wild theories online.
While social media users suggested a possible serial killer, investigators have ruled out any connection. Police say each case is being handled separately with no signs of a pattern.

Timeline of the Recent Houston Bayou Body Recoveries
Authorities released a timeline of when and where the bodies were found across different bayous. Each case occurred on a separate day and in different locations.
- Monday, September 15: Two bodies found—one near Greens Bayou, another in Brays Bayou at Spur 5.
- Tuesday, September 16: Third body recovered from White Oak Bayou near Taylor Street.
- Thursday, September 18: Fourth body pulled from Buffalo Bayou near Jensen Drive after reports of a person jumping in.
- Saturday, September 20: Fifth body discovered in Buffalo Bayou near North York Street.
As of September 18, the total number of bayou body recoveries for 2025 stands at 13. More investigations are still ongoing.

Officials Debunk ‘Bayou City Butcher’ Rumors
Social media users coined terms like “Bayou City Butcher” and compared the cases to Austin’s Lady Bird Lake rumors. But local law enforcement says the claims don’t hold up.
Criminal justice expert Krista Gehring explained that key details don’t match known serial killer behaviors. She also pointed out the randomness of locations and victim types.
“The speculation about a serial killer is unlikely. The details don’t fit known patterns.”
Police Say There’s No Evidence of Foul Play
Authorities are investigating each case separately and have found no proof linking the deaths. One has been ruled natural, while others await full autopsy reports.
Constable Alan Rosen said it’s still unclear whether the deaths were due to accidents, natural causes, suicide, or something else.
“There’s no evidence to suggest any connection between the deaths,” the Houston Police Department said in a statement.
University Student Jade McKissic Among the Victims
One of the bodies found on September 15 was identified as 20-year-old University of Houston student Jade “Sage” McKissic. She had previously been reported missing.
Medical examiners found no signs of trauma or foul play. Her official cause of death is still under review by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Houston Bayous Known for Accidental Drownings
This isn’t the first time Houston’s bayous have made headlines. In July 2024, multiple bodies were found in similar conditions across city waterways.
In 2023, sonar technology was used to scan local bayous for sunken vehicles linked to past drownings. Officials say Houston’s large network of bayous creates natural dangers.
What Makes These Cases Stand Out in 2025
The sudden cluster of five bodies in one week shocked residents and drew national attention. But officials stress that Houston bayou bodies are not a new phenomenon.
What makes this year different is the speed and volume of cases, combined with online rumors that have gone viral with little evidence.
Public Safety Officials Urge Caution Around Waterways
Local leaders remind people to stay alert near bayous, especially after heavy rains or flooding. Even strong swimmers can face trouble in fast-moving currents.
