*What started as a nine-act lineup for the Trump administration’s Freedom 250 concerts has dwindled dramatically, and Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli is now among those who have walked away.
The pop icon made his decision public during a Monday night CNN appearance, saying the situation deteriorated over the course of a single week, CBC reports.
Morvan said he initially took comfort in assurances from his team that the event carried no political agenda. However, seeing one performer after another exit changed his perspective. “I was like, ‘Well, that’s weird … what does he know that I don’t know?'” he said, referencing Young MC’s departure. “Throughout the week, it turned into a circus … this is not what I stand for. I’m not attending the June 26th celebration.”

His exit follows those of Poison frontman Bret Michaels, country artist Martina McBride, Young MC, Morris Day and the Time, and the Commodores, all of whom cited discomfort with the event’s perceived partisan leanings.
“I HAVE INFORMED MY AGENTS THAT I WILL NOT BE PERFORMING AT THE FREEDOM 250 EVENT,” Young MC said in a Facebook post.
“The artists were never told about any political involvement with the event. And despite the claims by the organizers that the event is non-partisan, SPIN magazine describes it as Trump-backed. I hope to perform in D.C. in the near future at an event that is not so politically charged.”
It remains unclear if C+C Music Factory will still appear after lead rapper Freedom Williams publicly expressed reservations, saying he was caught off guard by the controversy surrounding what he called the “Trump Freedom show.”
That leaves Vanilla Ice and Flo Rida as the last confirmed performers from the original announced roster. Vanilla Ice has been unapologetic about staying on board. “There’s nothing to it. It’s the birthday of America … it’s not anything to do with politics,” he told CBS News, adding that he would perform for any audience, including Russian President Vladimir Putin. “I’d go to Iran. Don’t matter,” he said.
The concert series runs June 25 through July 10 on the National Mall in Washington, D.C.
