*Wesley Silva, a 60-year-old pastor from western Pennsylvania, and his 5-foot-long emotional support alligator, Jinseioshi, were recently barred from a West Brownsville Walmart.
According to NBC News, the 32-pound reptile, dressed in a frock and riding in a shopping cart, drew attention during their visit, which ended with Walmart issuing a no-entry order for the pair. Silva, who has shopped at the store with Jinseioshi for over three years, was surprised by the decision.

“We have been going to that Walmart for about 3½ years, and normally the reaction is ‘That’s pretty cool’ or ‘That is awesome that you have a pet alligator, man!’” Silva told NBC News. He acquired Jinseioshi from a neighbor unable to care for the alligator, and she now lives in an outdoor pool by day and a bathtub at night. Despite the positive reactions, Silva claims they usually receive, Walmart prioritized safety in their response.
“The safety of our customers and associates is our highest priority,” Walmart said. “We welcome service animals in our stores, but it is unacceptable to expose members of the public to potential danger.” The retailer made it clear that Jinseioshi and other alligators are not permitted inside their stores.
Silva’s home already houses an array of reptiles, including six snakes, a leopard gecko, a Komodo dragon, an ocellated skink, a second alligator, and a dog. His connection to these creatures began three years ago when his daughter introduced him to a snake. “I held it one night and I just kind of started really bonding with it and holding it,” he said. “And finally, she gave me an ultimatum, ‘Dad, really, you need to get your own snake.’”
Silva sees his bond with reptiles as deeply personal, if not spiritual. “In the Bible, God talks about us having dominion over animals, and I developed an affinity for the reptiles,” said Silva. “I find them very soothing.”
