Prosecutors Detail Abuse and “Freak Offs” in Opening Statements
*Today (05-12-25), the Sean “Diddy” Combs federal sex trafficking trial commenced in Manhattan. Prosecutors allege that Combs orchestrated coercive sex events, called “freak offs,” involving his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and other victims. Assistant U.S. Attorney Emily Johnson described an incident where Combs ordered a male escort to urinate in Ventura’s mouth, leaving her feeling like she was choking.
The prosecution says these events were not spontaneous but carefully organized sex performances. Combs allegedly directed the lighting, provided drugs, and paid escorts in cash. Women were expected to act like they were enjoying themselves, despite being coerced, and many were under the influence during the acts.
Cassie Ventura to Testify on Abuse and Coercion
Ventura, who filed a lawsuit in 2023 alleging abuse and coercion, is expected to testify. Though her civil suit was settled one day after filing, it triggered a wave of similar lawsuits against Combs. Prosecutors say her testimony will outline years of physical abuse, including a violent 2016 incident captured on hotel surveillance where Combs allegedly assaulted her.
She is also expected to describe how Combs used blackmail, including threats to release sex tapes, to control her. The prosecution claims these “freak offs” started when Ventura was just 19 years old and continued for nearly a decade.

“Jane Doe” Alleges Drug-Fueled Abuse and Threats
Another woman, referred to as “Jane Doe,” says she was drawn into Combs’ world in 2020 and later forced into multiple “freak offs.” Initially believing the experience would be a one-time event, she claims it became routine. Prosecutors say Combs denied her requests for condoms, and she had to use drugs to cope with the encounters.
Jane Doe reportedly vomited during one session but was ordered to continue. She claims Combs later blackmailed her using recordings of these sessions, echoing the control tactics he allegedly used with Ventura, according to People.
Male Escort Describes Being Directed by Diddy
One of the prosecution’s key witnesses, male escort Daniel Phillip, testified that Combs hired him to have sex with Ventura while he watched. Phillip said he was coached to perform certain acts and given instructions mid-session, including to “use more baby oil.”
Phillip described Ventura as appearing traumatized and recalled that Combs once asked to see his ID before an encounter, which he interpreted as a threat. His testimony is being used to demonstrate Combs’ level of involvement and direction during these encounters.
Former Assistant Claims Sexual Assault
A former employee of Combs, known as Mia, is expected to testify about her own experiences. According to the prosecution, Mia will allege that Combs forcibly put his hand up her dress and penetrated her while she was working as his personal assistant.

Her account is intended to show a pattern of workplace abuse and harassment, reinforcing the broader sex trafficking and racketeering charges. Mia’s testimony could be crucial in establishing a culture of coercion and exploitation within Combs’ inner circle.
Defense Argues Consent and Attacks Credibility
Diddy’s defense team argues that the sexual encounters were consensual and that the women involved were “strong, capable adults.” They describe the prosecution’s case as sensational and driven by greed. They claim the women are exaggerating or fabricating claims for financial gain.
The defense also questions the credibility of some witnesses and insists that any violent outbursts Combs may have had do not amount to sex trafficking or organized abuse. They are expected to present evidence attempting to discredit the prosecution’s narrative.
Trial Expected to Last Several Weeks
The trial is expected to last up to ten weeks. Court sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the first week, with shorter days afterward. Multiple witnesses are set to testify, including Cassie Ventura, Mia, and additional escorts and staff members from Combs’ entourage.
If convicted on all counts, Combs faces life in prison. The trial is taking place at the Daniel Patrick Moynihan U.S. Courthouse in New York City, under intense public and media scrutiny. As new testimonies are introduced, the case continues to shock and divide public opinion.
