Judge Denies Diddy Bail After Split Federal Trial Verdict
*Sean “Diddy” Combs has been denied bail by U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian after a mixed verdict in his federal trial. The decision came after Combs was acquitted of the most serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy and two counts of sex trafficking.
Despite the acquittals, Diddy was found guilty on two federal counts of transporting women across state lines for prostitution—one for ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura and another for “Jane,” a second accuser. Each conviction carries a possible 10-year sentence.
Judge Cites Violent History and Risk to Victims
In his ruling, Judge Subramanian pointed directly to Combs’ “propensity for violence,” referencing a 2016 hotel video that showed him assaulting Cassie Ventura. He called it “impossible” for Diddy to prove he poses no threat to the community.
Prosecutors, led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Maurene Comey, argued that Combs had shown a pattern of violent, manipulative behavior and would be a danger to victims and the public if released. A letter from Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, supported that claim, stating that Combs remained a threat to Ventura and others involved.

Defense Pushes Back with $1M Bail Offer—Judge Rejects It
Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo urged the court to consider Diddy’s lack of prior convictions and the not-guilty verdicts on the most serious charges. He proposed a $1 million bail package with strict restrictions: no contact with victims, limited travel, and surrendering his passport.
But Judge Subramanian wasn’t moved. He ruled that no conditions could guarantee the safety of others or ensure Diddy would comply with legal restrictions. The music mogul will remain at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn until his sentencing.
Sentencing Set for October—But Legal Teams May Push Earlier
Combs’ sentencing is currently scheduled for October 3, 2025, but both sides are considering an expedited date. Prosecutors have announced they’ll push for the maximum 20-year sentence, while the defense is expected to argue for a reduced term, citing time served and Combs’ status as a first-time offender.
Legal experts suggest the final sentence could land between three to six years, depending on how the court weighs aggravating and mitigating factors. But the denial of bail signals the judge’s serious concerns about public safety and ongoing victim trauma.
Family Reacts: “Free Puff!” Chants Ring Out in Manhattan
Supporters and family members outside the courthouse expressed mixed emotions. While they cheered the acquittals on RICO and trafficking charges, they were disheartened by the bail ruling. Chants of “Free Puff!” echoed down the Manhattan streets.

Still, the verdict and bail denial make one thing clear: Diddy’s legal troubles are far from over. With prison time looming and prosecutors pushing for the maximum penalty, the next chapter in Combs’ career may play out in a courtroom—not a recording studio.
