Charlotte Man Arrested After Hosting Massive Unauthorized Party
*A Charlotte, North Carolina man was arrested for throwing a huge party at a house he was hired to care for. Authorities say Michael Brown, 37, charged an entry fee to hundreds of guests. The event took place in Weddington (NC), while the homeowners were on vacation.
Brown reportedly pocketed thousands of dollars during the wild event. It all unfolded near Twelve Mile Creek Road and Beulah Church Road. Law enforcement arrived after multiple noise complaints were called in.
Homeowner’s Trust Broken as Party Turns into Property Damage
When deputies showed up, Brown claimed the house was his own. He later said it belonged to his grandparents, but that story also fell apart. Deputies eventually got the truth—he was only hired for lawn care at the property.
“So, needless to say, our deputies cleared out the house very quickly and arrested the man responsible for this trespassing, charging him with numerous offenses related to the breaking and entering, property damage, trespassing and also a fraud offense for collecting money for each partygoer,” UCSO Lt. James Maye said. “A lot of clean up is needed and and there’ll be some restitution for the victim in this case.”

Multiple Agencies Helped Shut Down the Unauthorized Party
Due to the size of the crowd, extra help was needed to clear the scene. North Carolina State Highway Patrol and N.C. Alcohol Law Enforcement agents joined the Union County Sheriff’s Office in controlling the chaos.
Many guests tried to flee the scene quickly, causing traffic issues. Officers made several traffic stops and warned drivers about reckless behavior. After clearing the area, police found significant property damage at the home.
Neighbor Reacts to Loud Party and Unwanted Visitors
A neighbor shared her shock about the night’s events. She saw cars crowding the streets and people running across her yard. With small children at home, the situation was unsettling.
“There were cars lined up and down both sides of the road, all in the driveway, and that was when the police made their presence known,” a neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, said to WCNC Charlotte. “It is shocking. Very, very shocking because we had seen the landscaper crew. We had multiple people running through the front of our yard. We have two small children. So, that was very scary for them.”
Michael Brown Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
Deputies arrested Brown on several charges, including trespassing and breaking and entering. He was also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and obtaining property by false pretenses. Police seized more than $3,000 that Brown collected from partygoers. He was booked into the Union County Detention Center but has since been released on a $10,000 bond.

BBB Warns Homeowners to Research Contractors Carefully
Experts say this case is a reminder to vet service providers before hiring them. The Better Business Bureau encourages homeowners to do their research.
“Do your research, do your due diligence and your homework,” O’Rork said. “Spend time online, look up the company or the individual contractor, um, check out to see if they’re an accredited business with the Better Business Bureau.”
Why This Arrest Matters to Charlotte Residents
This story has sparked concern for local homeowners who trust contractors while away. It highlights how easily that trust can be broken. The case is also a reminder of how fast things can get out of control when events aren’t managed responsibly.
As the investigation continues, law enforcement urges homeowners to report suspicious behavior. The community is reminded that due diligence is key when hiring anyone with access to private property.
