*A fierce legal battle has erupted between acclaimed singer-actress Andra Day and her manager of 14 years, Jeff Evans, as revealed in court filings in Los Angeles this week.
Variety reports that Evans initiated the conflict with a lawsuit on Monday, claiming Day, born Cassandra Monique Batie, owes him at least $850,000. This sum includes a 40% cut of her publishing royalties and a 20% commission on other deals, such as payments tied to her starring role in the Netflix film “The Deliverance.” Evans further alleges that from 2012 to 2017, his expenses supporting Day exceeded her income, resulting in financial losses for him.
In response, Day filed a countersuit, accusing Evans of exploiting her financially. She asserts that certain profit-sharing terms expired in June 2023, although Evans claims that some provisions remained active. Day’s filing paints a stark picture, stating that Evans’ actions left her in dire financial straits.

“[Evans] siphoned so much money from Day — a quadruple-platinum hitmaker and Golden Globe Best Actress winner — that he left her facing eviction, unable to pay the monthly minimum on her [$300,000-plus] credit card debt and without sufficient funds to tour,” her complaint alleges.
Evans insists that he has not been paid according to their contracts since 2024. Meanwhile, Day accuses him of misappropriating significant sums, including a $600,000 recording fund and $1 million from her music earnings, describing his actions as being “caught red-handed stealing.”
Day’s legal team is pushing for an accounting investigation to uncover what they call a “web of deceit” and to determine the full extent of funds allegedly owed to her.
