*EURweb had the opportunity to celebrate Black excellence at the African American Film Critics Association (AAFCA) 2025 Special Achievement Awards, where Hollywood’s finest gathered to honor the incredible achievements of our community’s brightest stars.
Lynn Whitfield, Emmy Award-winning actress, RaMell Ross, visionary filmmaker, and other luminaries received their flowers for their outstanding contributions to film and television at a soul-stirring luncheon that had the room overflowing with joy, laughter, and heartfelt tears.
The star-studded event featured appearances by Keith David, Deric Augustine, Kathryn Bostic, Kelly Rowland, DeVon Franklin, J. Alphonse Nicholson, and Jennifer and Kat Kramer. AAFCA President and Founder Gil Robertson guided the celebration with grace and style.
Whitfield, a true queen of stage and screen, has blessed audiences for decades with unforgettable performances. From her Emmy-winning portrayal of Josephine Baker to her scene-stealing roles in “A Thin Line Between Love and Hate,” “Eve’s Bayou,” and the hit series “Greenleaf,” she has consistently proven why she is one of Hollywood’s most revered talents.

Whitfield’s latest triumph in “Albany Road” is creating serious buzz and reminding everyone why she has earned her legendary status.
“The African American Film Critics Association’s recognition is magnificent because they’re the drum of our culture when it comes to television and film, helping to shape the conversation,” Whitfield explained. “I am so appreciative that they find my work worthy and consider me a legend.”
The iconic actress is now joining forces with DeVon Franklin on an exciting Netflix project, bringing the timeless biblical story of Ruth and Boaz to life for a new generation.
Legendary actor Keith David, whose rich voice has brought more than 70 characters to life and whose presence commands every screen he graces, had the honor of presenting Whitfield with her award. He shared a touching memory of their friendship.
“When we first met during a reading of a play by Ossie Davis, the conversation we shared riding to the venue was memorable,” David reflected. “Then I got to spend five seasons with her on ‘Greenleaf’—that’s been the greatest gift of all.”

Amber Rasberry took home the Horizon Award, bringing her unique perspective as a studio executive shaped by her fascinating family dynamic—a Black Panther mother and police officer father.
The powerful film “Nickel Boys” earned well-deserved recognition, with rising stars Brandon Wilson and Ethan Herisse receiving the Next Gen Award, while RaMell Ross was honored with the Karen and Stanley Kramer Social Justice Award.
The celebration featured heartfelt tributes from colleagues, friends, and family members who gave each honoree their flowers, making the afternoon even more meaningful as personal stories and shared memories brought the room together in celebration of Black excellence.
