*Apple TV+ is bringing boundless imagination to young viewers with the launch of its newest animated preschool series, “Not a Box,” premiering globally on Friday, June 13. Inspired by the award-winning children’s picture book by New York Times bestselling author and illustrator Antoinette Portis, the eight-episode series champions creativity, curiosity, and the transformative power of a simple cardboard box.
Per the news release, the show follows Riley, a bright-eyed bunny voiced by Isabel Birch, who turns an ordinary box into a portal for magical adventures. Whether it becomes a rocket ship, pirate ship, or anything in between, Riley’s journeys are guided by imagination. The character of ‘Adult’ is voiced by Ian James Corlett, known for his work on “Dragon Ball Z.”
“Not a Box” invites young viewers and their families to step into a rich world of environments, characters and encounters that is as limitless as their imaginations to create, explore and celebrate.
The series is produced by Dete Meserve’s Silver Creek Falls Entertainment, with Meserve serving as executive producer. Emmy Award-winning writer Michael Rabb serves as co-executive producer and writer. Animation duties are handled by Passion Pictures, with executive producers Debbie Crosscup and Andrew Ruhemann, and direction by Siri Melchior.
Also serving as executive producers are Harry Lowell for Nitelite Pictures and Angus Wall and Linda Carlson for Rock Paper Scissors. Kate Robinson, director of the Sir Ken Robinson Foundation and daughter of the late education innovator, acts as the imagination and creativity expert on the series. Through Apple TV+’s changemakers initiative, she brings her father’s legacy of creativity and education into the show. Robinson also co-authored his manifesto, “Imagine If… Creating a Future for Us All.”
