Vivica A. Fox on Finally Playing A Mother Again in Peacock’s ‘Bosco’ | WATCH

*In movies, there’s an undeniable power when storytellers draw on personal experiences to infuse authenticity and depth into complex character roles. The recently released Peacock film, Bosco,” starring Vivica A. Foxx, leans into this, delving into the real-life prison break saga of Quawntay “Bosco” Adams.

In 2006, over two million Americans were incarcerated, but somehow, Bosco was the only one who managed to escape a federal maximum-security wing while under 24-hour surveillance. He plans his escape with the help of a lonely Missouri woman whom he meets by replying to a personal ad.

EUR talked with Fox, one of the film’s stars, and the other, Aubrey Joseph, as well as director Nicholas Manuel Pino. Joseph, who plays Bosco, shared his journey of discovering the unique story.

“Oh my god! I had no clue about Bosco’s story. One of the managers on my team brought me the script. And he had served a few years in prison,” Joseph revealed. This personal connection adds a layer of commitment and responsibility to the portrayal of Bosco, as he aims not only to capture the character authentically but also to shed light on the man behind the bars.

The film also explores themes of faith, determination, and resilience, as evident in Fox’s portrayal of Willa, Bosco’s mother. Fox reflected on her experiences, drawing inspiration from her earlier role as a mother in “Soul Food” and her real-life sister, Alicia.

“For me, my inspiration is always my big sister. She’s kind of like the glue that holds our family together,” Fox explained, highlighting the grounding elements she infused into her character.

Pino emphasized the challenge of encapsulating the vastness of Bosco’s life within the confines of a prison break story.

“We try to hold in, like what we can tell, in the context of a prison break story, at this time of his life because, you know, he’s lived a full life,” Pino shared. The film aims to capture the essence of Bosco’s character within a specific narrative framework.

“Bosco” is currently streaming on “Peacock.”
