*Authorities have identified Thomas Matthew Crooks as the individual responsible for an assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on Saturday.

The FBI announced that Crooks is now confirmed dead. The 20-year-old was from Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The immediate neutralization of the gunman/Crooks was carried out by the Secret Service on the scene, as stated by their chief of communications, Anthony Guglielmi.

Bethel Park is a predominantly white and relatively affluent suburb in the southern outskirts of Pittsburgh. The rally’s location, Butler, is situated approximately an hour’s drive north of Pittsburgh, according to NBC News.

Officials are still unclear about Crooks’ motivation for the attack. Pennsylvania voter records show a Thomas Matthew Crooks with the same address and birth date as a registered Republican, but the timing of this registration remains unspecified.

Investigators are focused on uncovering the motive behind the assassination attempt and determining whether Crooks acted alone or had accomplices. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities piece together the events leading up to the incident and any potential underlying reasons for the attack.

And there’s this.  The AP  is reporting that records show that Thomas Michael Crooks is a registered Republican voter in Pennsylvania.

Federal campaign finance reports also show Thomas Matthew Crooks gave $15 to a progressive political action committee on January 20, 2021, the day US President Joe Biden was sworn into office.
