Free Agent Quarterback Russell Wilson Chooses Steelers As New Team | WATCH

*There’s exciting news for Pittsburgh Steelers fans as ESPN sources confirm that Russell Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback and former Super Bowl champion, is set to join the team.

Wilson is expected to sign a one-year contract that will benefit the team financially. Surprisingly, the Denver Broncos, who recently informed Wilson of his impending release, will cover $38 million of his salary while he plays for the Steelers.

In a social media post on Sunday night, Wilson expressed his gratitude for entering his 13th year in the NFL and shared a video featuring the Steelers and their passionate fans.

Wilson, still under contract with the Broncos until the new league year starts on Wednesday, spent over six hours meeting with Steelers officials in Pittsburgh last Friday. With the Broncos’ approval, he talked with key figures including coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith, leading to the successful signing of the one-year deal.

Now, Wilson joins Pittsburgh with Kenny Pickett, the Steelers’ 2022 first-round pick, as the only quarterback currently under contract. Mason Rudolph, who started games for the team last season, is entering free agency.

After a two-season stint with the Broncos that saw Wilson struggle to reach the playoffs, he leaves the team with a record of 11-19 in his starts. The Broncos will incur an $85 million dead money hit on their salary cap over the next two seasons due to Wilson’s release.

Wilson brings an illustrious career that includes ten seasons with the Seahawks, nine Pro Bowl appearances, and a Super Bowl win in 2014. With impressive stats of 43,653 passing yards, 334 touchdowns, and 106 interceptions, Wilson has made a significant impact on the league.

In a recent podcast appearance, Wilson emphasized his goal of winning two more Super Bowls over the next two years. His past encounters with the Steelers have been successful, boasting a 2-0 record with eight touchdown passes, no interceptions, and a 147.1 passer rating.

Looking ahead, the Steelers’ 2024 schedule includes a game against the Broncos in Denver, where Wilson may face his former team once again.
