*Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free teamed with “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone for a comedy film that hits theaters next year.
According to Variety, the movie is slated for release on July 4, 2025, via Paramount Pictures. While Kendrick Lamar’s involvement in front of the camera remains uncertain, the report notes his and Dave Free’s roles in the production.
Discussing Film describes the feature as a musical that follows “a young Black man interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum who discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.”
Meanwhile, Kendrick’s reps have clarified that the currently untitled film is not a musical.
Lamar and Grammy winner Dave Free will produce the film through pgLang, their multidisciplinary communications company.
“I’m excited to announce that we’re going into production this summer on a [comedy] from the creators of South Park, Matt Stone and Trey Parker,” Paramount film chief Brian Robbins revealed recently at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“This script is one of the funniest and most original scripts we’ve ever read, and it’s certain to create some fireworks when it hits theaters on July 4, 2025,” he added.
Stone and Parker will produce the project via Park County. The duo is renowned for creating the long-running animated series “South Park,” which completed its 26th season last year on Comedy Central.
