*“Ricky Stanicky” is an irreverent buddy comedy starring Zac Efron, John Cena, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, and Lex Scott Davis. It tells the story of a group of friends who have been telling a lie for 25 years.
That lie is of an imaginary best friend who the trio conjures up whenever they need to a cover for their childish behaviors and shenanigans. His name is Rick Stanicky. However, things go awry when the trio gets trapped by their own deception and are forced to seek out an actor to play the role of Stanicky when their most recent lie is threatened with exposure. That’s when Cena steps in as Ricky Stanicky.
Davis plays Erin, the intelligent and supportive wife of Dean, played by Efron.
“Ricky Stanicky” is directed by Peter Farrelly who, along with his brother Bobby, has carved out a name as a great director of classic comedies and dramas like, “Green Book,” “Dumb & Dumber,” and “The Greatest Beer Run Ever.”
EUR spoke with Davis about her role, the innate immaturity of some men, and the lengths to which they will go to maintain that immaturity, and whether or not it is acceptable to lie to a loved one.
“I trust Peter. We’ve worked together before and I will never forget how I felt on that first set I worked with him,” said Davis. “He’s someone who obviously knows comedy very well, but he takes acting and backstory very seriously. Working with him feels like you’re taking a master class.”
“We were going in on this scene and he wouldn’t let it go until we got it right,” said Davis. “We probably did, like, twenty takes. We got it right and it felt like a master class. I appreciated it so much because not often do you get that level of direction from a person. Sometimes it’s a director who’s more interested in the camera and the angles and the shots for the day and the schedule. Sometimes they can forget about the actual arc of a character.”
“Ricky Stanicky” premieres globally on Prime Video on March 7, 2024.
