*Days after Pras Michel took his issues with Lauryn Hill to a lawsuit, the “Lost Ones” rapstress is firing back in kind with her response to her fellow Fugee.
“Some clarity and facts need to be presented,” Hill said. “I’ve been silent and pushing through because I understood that Pras was under duress because of his legal battles and that this was perhaps affecting his judgment, state of mind and character.”
As noted by Love B Scott, per Vibe, Hill was just getting started as she leveled her claims against Pras, labeling his lawsuit “baseless.”
In her reply, she went in further on the “false claims and unwarranted attacks,” while addressing each alleged concern in a seven-part breakdown. To hear her tell it, Michel’s filing “notably omits that he was advanced overpayment for the last tour and has failed to repay substantial loans extended by myself as an act of goodwill.”
Regarding the recent Fugees tour, the “Everything is Everything” entertainer gave the reason for the outing, saying it was in commemoration of the 25th anniversary of her debut solo album, “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill,” and was scheduled to move forward with or without The Fugees’ involvement.
Hill went on to claim that Michel was given a $3 million advance for the tour to pay his legal fees.
“Wyclef and myself deferred our full advances to make sure he had what he needed and was able to go. I covered most of the tour expenses, as the majority of the tour advance had gone to Pras,” she continued, accusing her groupmate of being in breach of the agreement that was set up to repay the advance.
Hill then brought up again how she absorbed the brunt of production costs for the tour, adding that Michel “basically just had to show up and perform,” LoveBScott mentioned.
Allegedly, Michel “thanked” Hill for “saving his life,” a claim that Hill has no problem pulling out “receipts” for to confirm the “Ghetto Superstar” vocalist’s statement.
Hill’s comments come after Michel’s lawsuit gave his side of the story with claims she mismanaged the Fugees‘ tour. For him, the outing was a “devious attempt to make a big score for herself.”
Not letting up, Hill voiced that Michel’s legal issues and his need for money to “aid his legal defense” was the reason she expanded the 25th-anniversary “Miseducation” tour to include The Fugees.
Although her remarks and criticism of Michel come off as harsh, Hill said she is “not in the business of kicking anyone, especially when they’re down,” adding that it’s “absolutely disheartening to see Pras in this position.”
No matter what, the “Fu-Gee-La” rhymer maintains that she remains “compassionate” when it comes to Michel. But the bottom line is she isn’t “responsible” for the decisions that led to his conviction or the subsequent consequences.
