*We’re hearing from Michael “Harry-O” Harris, a prominent figure in the entertainment industry and founder of Godfather Entertainment. Today (10-03-24), he announced the launch of the O-Plan Challenge, a powerful call to action for U.S. presidential candidates.

Known for co-founding Death Row Records and propelling the careers of iconic hip-hop artists such as Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, and Tupac Shakur, Harris is leveraging his influence and experiences to advocate for transformative political change.

After remaining silent for three years following a Presidential commutation of his 33-year prison sentence in 2021 by then-president Donald Trump, Harris is now determined to engage in vital discussions on policies that address longstanding issues affecting marginalized communities. He understands the depth of these challenges, having experienced life as a young Black man in South Central Los Angeles and having spent 33 years in prison, including time on death row.

The O-Plan Challenge: A Vision for Meaningful Change

The O-Plan Challenge urges all prospective presidential candidates to commit to a set of concrete proposals to deliver real hope and sustained change to communities often ignored by political elites. Harris emphasizes the importance of moving beyond mere promises, advocating instead for actionable commitments that uplift communities with better schools, job opportunities, and adequate resources.

Central to the O-Plan are two key platforms: The Access Agenda and The Redemption Agenda, both aiming to restore dignity and provide opportunities for the community.

The Access Agenda: Creating Opportunities

The Access Agenda focuses on promoting economic self-sufficiency and breaking the cycle of generational debt through initiatives such as:

  • Expanding “rent to own” programs and access to capital for community businesses, targeting over $500 billion in potential investment.
  • Developing comprehensive economic empowerment programs that emphasize financial literacy and entrepreneurial education.
  • Optimizing educational opportunities by incentivizing high-performing teachers to work in under-resourced schools and expanding school choice options for families.

The Redemption Agenda: Fostering Transformation

The Redemption Agenda champions the importance of fostering stories of redemption and community connection through:

  • Implementing fair hiring practices that prioritize community members and incentivize accountable policing.
  • Advocating for comprehensive criminal justice reform, including expanded prison education programs and second-chance hiring initiatives aimed at reducing recidivism.

Empowering Communities Through Action

The O-Plan is a project of Our Community First Action, Inc. (OCFA), a nonprofit organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of communities and promoting robust policies designed to enhance neighborhood resilience and family well-being. Through a series of concerts and community events, Community First aims to unite individuals, showcasing their collective power and commitment to making a change.

“Now is the time for our votes to result in real commitments from our leaders,” said Harris. “We cannot afford to let fleeting promises guide our future. It’s time for action and accountability.”

Since being released from prison, Harry-O Harris has established Community One World and Philanthropy TV, both aimed at promoting equal access to opportunities and supporting community-centric causes. As the COO and co-CEO of the new Death Row Records and Death Row Pictures, Harris continues to champion initiatives that advance economic prosperity for future generations.
