*Among the fully electric vehicles I’ve tried out over the past year, this one (2024 Audi Q8 e-tron Prestige) has been the most impressive. With its zero to 60 rate (5.3 seconds for the Sportback e-tron with ultra package) and extra smooth ride, it was hard to stay out of this vehicle. Plus, the Q8 doesn’t compromise on looks, leaning into the classic Audi style.
Sleek, smooth ride: If you’ve ever taken to the FDR in New York, or any road, street, or highway for that matter in New York City, you know potholes are just part of the territory and they’re unavoidable. The Q8 offers impeccable suspension, causing all of us in the vehicle to forget we were even driving those rough roads.
It took a passenger saying, “Wow, I don’t feel anything.” I didn’t know what she was talking about, initially. But as a driver, she was watching the road for rough spots. We went over so many potholes and divots in a single trip but didn’t experience the devastation we might have in her SUV. Driving this car was like riding in the air.
Windows and Views: This isn’t something I usually write about, but I did notice that the windows seemed to be wider in this vehicle, in comparison to other electric vehicles I’ve test-driven. This design feature I think is especially remarkable because it gives everyone a sense of expanded comfort in the car, giving folk access to the outside views a bit easier.
Since I drove this in the fall, the views were especially lovely. Plus opening up the sunroof (which actually opens) was something worth noting too. This might have been my second favorite feature of the car.
Smart Design: In my reviews of other electric vehicles, you may have noticed my complaints about the gear shift designs. The Q8 is my overall FAVORITE when it comes to its gear shift design. It is not like any other vehicle I’ve test-driven, but too much of a deviation from gas-powered vehicles. It is ergonomically designed and easy to use. The shape is perfect for most hands and shifting gears feels natural and effortless.
The infotainment center is also easy to use and navigate. I love it when car designers include a variety of ways to engage with this area in a car, with buttons and touch screens. The wireless charger, located in the storage area of the center console, is nearly flush against the sides, but the design makes it easy to remove your phone. A car I once drove included a design like this but removing my phone was a hassle. Finally, not many vehicles offer this, but using CarPlay wirelessly was amazing.
Despite its low MPGe (range of 285 miles on a full charge), I loved the Q8. From the smooth, comfortable ride, to the smart features throughout the vehicle, this one’s a winner. Help the environment in luxury, comfort, and style. Sign me up.
