*Erykah Badu received the Fashion Icon Award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, joining past honorees like Zendaya, Beyoncé, and Rihanna

At the ceremony in Manhattan, Badu, known for her bold style, wore a black-and-white dress, a beaded headpiece, and her signature face jewelry. The award, which was presented to her by her ex André 3000 (the father of her son Seven Sirius), celebrates the neo soul singer’s influence alongside other notable fashion icons. “This honor is amazing, and I do not take it for granted. I’ve always had a love for taking bits and pieces of the things I am attracted to and creating something far more grand than the sum of those parts. From the music I make, to the looks I put on, to the technology I’m developing, I’m always looking for innovative, exciting ways to be more expressive and connect with people, to be closer to nature,” Badu shared in a statement.

“Erykah Badu and fashion are synonymous in many ways. Erykah effortlessly exudes herself, her unique point of view, through the clothing she chooses to wear and each look she dreams up is so individual and true to herself,’ said fashion designer Thom Browne, who’s also a CFDA chairman.

Cynthia Erivo hosted the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards, presented by Amazon Fashion at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. In a statement, the actress said, “As a born and bred Londoner, I can safely say that the UK has its own sense of style, but when I moved to New York almost 10 years ago, I was welcomed into the open arms of the New York fashion industry,” she shared to the CFDA website.

“When I was asked to serve as the host of the 2024 CFDA Fashion Awards presented by Amazon Fashion, I naturally did not hesitate to say yes. I cannot wait to celebrate the nominees and honorees in a room full of people I am inspired by,” Erivo continued.

In a 2023 interview with Vogue, Badu took a look back at some of her iconic fashion moments. Watch below:
