*Courtney Burgess, who claims he owns the copyright of Kim Porter’s alleged memoir, has slammed a cease-and-desist letter sent by Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs‘ sons.
According to The Blast, Burgess called the letter a “desperate ploy” by Diddy to extort money from him. We reported earlier that Burgess claims he obtained a copy of the book but Porter’s longtime best friend, Lawanda Lane, insists the late model never wrote a tell-all about her life with the disgraced music mogul.
Lane told TMZ that she cared for Kim and Diddy’s twin daughters and was with Porter daily until her passing in 2018. Lane allegedly sorted through Porter’s belongings after her death and insists a manuscript does not exist. She also maintains that Porter’s family doesn’t know Burgess. According to Burgess’ attorney, he had a copy of the book stored on a flash drive and handed it to federal investigators.
Diddy’s sons, Christian and Quincy Combs, have threatened legal action if Burgess doesn’t halt the sale of the book. They argue that as their mother’s heirs, they inherited any intellectual property rights she owned. Burgess disputes this, asserting that Porter granted him the rights to her diary before her death.
In response to the letter, Burgess indicated that he had no intention of complying with Christian and Quincy’s demands.
Here’s more from The Blast:
In a statement obtained by TMZ, Burgess revealed that he came into possession of the tapes when Porter reportedly handed him 11 flash drives prior to her passing in 2018. Burgess claimed that he and Porter were acquaintances, and she entrusted him with the drives.
While Burgess withheld specific details about the contents of the drives, he revealed that they contained at least eight sex tapes involving Diddy, featuring eight celebrities and two to three minors.
Federal prosecutors have not disclosed specifics about Burgess’ testimony or if any of the files he handed over involving Diddy will lead to new charges against the Bad Boy Records founder.
TMZ reports that Burgess testified before a New York grand jury related to Combs’ ongoing criminal case, claiming he has sex tapes showing celebrities participating in Diddy’s “freak offs.”
Diddy is currently being held in federal custody in Brooklyn after being indicted in September on three criminal charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has pleaded not guilty and denied the allegations. If convicted, Combs faces up to life in prison. His trial begins in May 2025.
