*50 Cent successfully defended against a $1 billion lawsuit filed by former drug dealer Cory “Ghost” Holland Sr., who alleged that the “Power” co-creator had used his life story as the basis for the hit show’s plot.
We reported earlier that Holland Sr. filed a ten-figure lawsuit against STARZ, 50 Cent, and showrunner Courtney Kemp, claiming the show is based on his life as a New York drug kingpin.
Holland explained in the suit that he created a cautionary tale about his life in 2007, burned it onto CDs, and distributed them to at-risk children. He claimed that he met with Kemp’s father in the early 1990s to discuss his life story as he sought to leave the drug trade. He alleged that 50 Cent received a copy of the CD and turned his life story into a scripted drama series.
According to FanSided, Holland sought a motion for a preliminary injunction that could halt the promotion of the forthcoming spinoff, “Power: Origins.” He also accused 50 Cent of attempting to intimidate him into dropping the lawsuit.
“If a motherf**ker gets killed because your motherf**king client threaten me and my family, file a motherf**king motion for that. I ain’t playing with your motherf**king client no more, next time he or anyone he sends pull up, f**k the litigation,” read a statement from Holland to 50’s reps, Vibe reported.
As Complex reports, Judge Analisa Torres recently ruled in favor of 50 Cent, determining that the show does not directly reference Holland.
On Aug. 3, Fiddy turned to social media to post a screenshot of the story announcing that he won the case.
“Fool thought he was Ghost 😆 da fvck wrong wit these 🥷’s man 🤨 LOL,” he wrote.
