YouTube Creates AI Tool for Users to Sound Like Popular Music Stars

*A new artificial intelligence tool coming to YouTube will allow users to sound like their favorite recording artists.

According to Billboard, record companies have been taking their time signing licensing deals with YouTube, delaying the tool’s beta launch.

Creators can use the AI tool to incorporate the voices of a select group of artists into their content on the platform. Artists can provide ideas to YouTube to improve the AI strategy.

As Complex reports, Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl said, “You have to embrace the technology, because it’s not like you can put technology in a bottle.”

Universal Music Group CEO Lucian Grainge said the tech has the ability to “amplify human imagination and enrich musical creativity in extraordinary new ways.”

Meanwhile, Universal Music Group sent an email to all music streaming platforms in March demanding they block AI versions of their artists.

“We will not hesitate to take steps to protect our rights and those of our artists,” UMG wrote, BBC reported.

“We have a moral and commercial responsibility to our artists to work to prevent the unauthorized use of their music and to stop platforms from ingesting content that violates the rights of artists and other creators. We expect our platform partners will want to prevent their services from being used in ways that harm artists,” a statement from UMG reads.

When the AI-generated song “Heart on My Sleeve,” which mimics the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, dropped in April, UMG had it pulled from streaming platforms.

The track was submitted for Grammy consideration by the artist named Ghostwriter — in the categories of Best Rap Song and Song of the Year.

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. told The New York Times that the deep fake single is “absolutely eligible” for Grammy consideration because it “was written by a human.”
