Childhood and Early Life

Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29, 1954, to Vernon Winfrey and single teen mom Vernita Lee in rural Kosciusko, Mississippi. Oprah Winfrey triumphed over a challenging upbringing and grew up without access to indoor plumbing. The young kid endured horrible living conditions and grappled with extreme poverty.
