*This story is about the so-called “Dating Table.” You see, in the dating world, there’s a simple yet overused question that men and women ask each other to determine value and compatibility.
“What do you bring to the table?”
It’s a question I’ve grown to hate.
What’s the point of even asking? As if it’s gender specific.
We’re adults. We should ALL bring the same essential things to this mysterious table.
The truth is – we aren’t asking this question to help ourselves make better dating choices. It’s just another way for us to point fingers at one another, and question each other’s worth.
These conversations on social media have gotten stale and childish.
Scroll through any platform and you’ll discover dozens of videos focused on “the table.” There’s usually a panel of men and women screaming at one another over which gender has more to offer in a relationship.
Emotions get high, the voices get louder, and before you know it, one of the women will say “I am the table!”
More arguing ensues. Tears fall. Hugs are given. The end.
It’s a pointless discussion rooted in bitterness and hatred between both genders. Rarely do these conversations end with agreed-upon solutions.
Simply put – if you claim to be a fully grown adult, then you ought to have certain characteristics that make you a suitable partner for someone. This applies to men AND women.
Period.
