*As one of the original cast members of the 1985 “The Color Purple,” Oprah said the experience “changed everything” regarding her perception of work and steered her into becoming an entrepreneur, she told Extra TV. When Steven Speilberg directed the film in the 80s, he owned his production company Amblin Entertainment, Inc., which inspired Oprah to launch Harpo Productions. 💜
Taraji P. Henson wants “The Color Purple“ to end ‘cancel culture’ and gave a very Shug Avery response, “People be tryin’ to run your life and can’t even walk theirs!” 👏 Barz!!!!
Entertainment Tonight journalist Kevin Frazier provided a rundown of his experience at “The Color Purple” L.A. premiere. He highlighted the author, Alice Walker, who wrote the original book that serves as the basis for the film, and showcased all the celebrities in attendance. Fun fact: When the original film debuted in 1985 the NAACP criticized the film for its negative depiction of Black males and also protested the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for not awarding film any honors. While we thought the male roles were stereotypical, we also pointed out that we thought the acting was superb and that we were glad to see so many jobs provided for black people. For the academy to ignore black achievement is a slap in the face.” What a full moment because Oscar buzz is over this movie like technicolor and surround sound.
Fantasia, who plays the lead role Celie in “The Color Purple,” recently announced she received a message from the holy triumvirate and her spirit was spurred to drop a gospel album. Sis, do it! In preparation of creating her good news album, the Grammy winner took the audience of Elle magazine’s “Women In Hollywood” to church as she closed her speech and sang the famous hymn “To God Be the Glory,” from top to bottom, left to right, ✟. Tasia got that oil! Girl, stop playing with us, get in the studio, and bring Jennifer Hudson with you.
